About Jay Airsports

'Jay' Jaysukh Madhvani was born in Kenya and moved to the UK in the mid 60's. A Warrant Officer in the British Army, Jay spent many years in the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment, serving as a driving instructor. He next turned his attention to Microlights and began flying in 1992 at Rufforth in North Yorkshire. In 1994, he moved south and flew from London Colney near St Albans in Hertfordshire until moving operations to Plaistows Farm in nearby Chiswell Green in Hertfordshire.

Jay clocked up thousands of hours' experience in microlights and was an instructor for almost 10 years. He piloted just about every type and make of trike there is as well as a multitude of fixed wing variations. He completed several Round Britain Rallies and has toured most of the UK and France (including two record breaking attempts to Cyprus!) in a flex-wing microlight.

Jay Airsports was set up in 1996 and has steadily grew into two thriving flying schools based at Plaistows Farm, just to the North West of London, and Hunsdon Airfield, near Harlow in Essex. Jay taught 7 days a week, on both Flex-Wing and Fixed-Wing Microlights. A social pilot, passionate about his flying, Jay also formed the Barnet Flying club, now the Exodus & Barnet Flying club. Jay also raised thousands of pounds for charities such as the Lakeside Special Needs School and the Starlight Ward, Premature Babies Unit at Barnet General Hospital.

Tragically, Jay died in an accident on 28th March 2007 at the age of 54.

Jay Airsports as a business unit no longer exists, but the Barnet Flying club and its’ members thrives as part of the Exodus & Barnet Flying club, headed up by double world champion microlight pilot Rob Grimwood.
